Giving Credit where credit is Due! Thank you MILESTONE!

Milestone Comics was one of the greatest comic book publishers of the 1990s. Founded by a group of African-American artists and writers, Milestone was dedicated to creating diverse, groundbreaking stories that reflected the experiences of people of color. Through its commitment to pushing the boundaries of what was possible in the world of comics, Milestone paved the way for a new generation of creators and inspired countless readers around the world.

At a time when the mainstream comic book industry was dominated by white, male creators and characters, Milestone offered a much-needed alternative. Its flagship series, "Static," starred a teenage African-American hero who struggled with issues like racism, gang violence, and the pressures of growing up in the inner city. Other titles, like "Icon," "Hardware," and "Blood Syndicate," explored similarly complex themes, and featured diverse casts of characters who represented a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.

But Milestone was more than just a publisher of groundbreaking comics - it was a movement. Its creators were committed to fostering a more inclusive and diverse comic book industry, and they worked tirelessly to promote their vision of a world where everyone had a chance to tell their own stories. Through initiatives like the "Milestone Universe," which featured crossovers and collaborations between different series, Milestone created a rich and interconnected fictional world that was unlike anything else in comics.

Sadly, Milestone was short-lived. Despite its critical acclaim and loyal fanbase, the publisher struggled to find a foothold in an industry that was resistant to change. In 1997, after just a few short years, Milestone ceased publication. But its legacy lives on. The characters and stories created by Milestone continue to inspire and captivate readers around the world, and its impact on the comic book industry can still be felt today.

In recent years, there have been renewed efforts to revive Milestone, and to honor the legacy of its creators and their groundbreaking work. In 2021, DC Comics announced the launch of "Milestone Returns," a new imprint that will feature updated versions of classic Milestone characters, as well as new stories and creators. It's a fitting tribute to a publisher that helped to change the face of comics, and a testament to the enduring power of great storytelling.
